Stearic acid is a kind of fatty acid widely found in nature. Almost all fats and oils container stearic acid in different amounts.. It is white solid prill. It is insoluble in water and soluble in benzene, carbon, sulfide, ethanol, etc.
Stearic acid is an essential long-chain fatty acid prevalent in oils and fats, appearing as glycerides in animal fats and certain vegetable oils. This versatile compound is extracted through the hydrolysis of these natural oils. As a naturally abundant fatty acid, stearic acid exhibits the typical chemical properties of carboxylic acids. It is present in nearly all fats with varying concentrations. Notably, it constitutes about 24% of butter, while present at 0.8% in tea oil and 6% in palm oil. Interestingly, cocoa butter boasts a higher concentration, reaching up to 34%.

Application:
Stearic acid is mainly used in the products of stearates: sodium stearate, magnesium stearate, calcium stearate, lead stearate, aluminum stearate, potassium stearate, etc;
It is also widely used in cosmetics, plastic cold-resistant plasticizers, mold release agents, stabilizers, surfactants, rubber vulcanization accelerators, waterproof agents, polishing agents, metal soaps, metal mineral flotation agents, softeners, etc;
In addition, stearic acid is also used as a solvent for oil-soluble pigments, crayon slip agent, wax paper polish, emulsifier for stearic acid glycerides, etc;
Stearic acid is used as raw material for lubricants, antifoaming agents and food additives, such as stearic acid glycerides, sucrose easters, etc;
Stearic acid is also used in manufacturing of PVC plastic pipes, sheets, profiles and films. It is a PVC heat stabilizer with good lubricity and good light and heat stability.
